Douglas Alexander MP for Lothian East constituency
Pupils from Aberlady Primary School have had the chance to quiz local MP Douglas Alexander after inviting him to visit the school and talk about his role.
Mr Alexander spoke to the school’s P7 class about the work MPs undertake in their constituencies and in parliament, including his additional role as a government minister.
The pupils asked a wide range of questions about his work, although the most popular was who is the most famous footballer he has met during his time in politics.
Speaking after the visit, Douglas Alexander MP said:
“I’ve always regarded visiting schools to speak to pupils about our democracy and how parliament functions as one of the most important tasks for parliamentarians to undertake in their constituencies.
“Learning about how our two parliaments operate and make new laws is not only part of the curriculum but also helps young people develop their understanding of what it means to be a good citizen and to participate in public life.
“I welcomed this opportunity to speak to pupils at Aberlady primary, who were well prepared and asked some excellent questions, and look forward to visiting other local schools in the future.”
