Douglas Alexander MP for Lothian East constituency
Ahead of World Social Work Day on Tuesday 18th March, Douglas Alexander MP and Martin Whitfield MSP have welcomed the return of the Amazing Social Workers campaign and paid tribute to the work undertaken by social workers in East Lothian and across Scotland.
The British Association of Social Workers (BASW UK) is celebrating the occasion by once again running its Amazing Social Workers (ASW) campaign. Each year, the campaign shines a spotlight on the incredible work happening across the UK social work profession and raises awareness of the importance of social work within and for our communities.
BASW invites nominations from the profession and then announces their achievements on its website and social media channels throughout March as part of its World Social Work Day celebrations.
Douglas Alexander MP said:
“To help mark World Social Work Day 2025, I’m delighted to support The British Association of Social Worker’s Amazing Social Worker campaign.
“The initiative shines a spotlight on the countless examples of exceptional work happening across the social work profession every day. I particularly want to thank social workers in the Lothian East constituency for all they do to support people locally.”
Martin Whitfield MSP said:
“Social workers play a critical role within our communities in upholding human rights, promoting social justice and advocating for the adults, children and families they support.
“I welcome the Amazing Social Worker campaign and its important focus on the individual and collective achievements of social workers, as well as the recognition of the positive difference that social work makes to people’s lives.”
