Following the powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake that has devastated huge areas of Myanmar, the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) charities have today launched an emergency appeal to help the survivors.
Myanmar was already facing a severe humanitarian crisis with a third of the population in need of humanitarian aid. Now the situation is catastrophic, with hundreds of people still missing and the death toll continuing to rise.
Many more people have no access to the safe shelter, clean water, food and medical care they need to survive. Infrastructure, roads and buildings across the region have been destroyed, people are cut off from vital services and medical facilities are overwhelmed.
With your help, the Disasters Emergency Committee charities can rapidly scale up their response, access remote communities and help many more families affected by this disaster. The UK Government is matching every pound donated to the DEC appeal up to £5 million.
Whatever you can give, please donate today at www.dec.org.uk.
