Douglas Alexander MP has joined fellow elected representatives from East Lothian to meet with a group of local farmers at East Lothian Produce, near Haddington.

Organised by the NFU Scotland regional office, the roundtable discussion gave the farmers a chance to raise topical issues and quiz the politicians on some of the challenges they are currently facing.

Mr Alexander spoke about the UK Government’s position on various matters, including the changes to Inheritance Tax which are set to be introduced next year.

Speaking afterwards, Douglas Alexander MP said: 

“I was pleased to take this further opportunity to engage with the NFU and the local farming community on their views on a wide range of issues. 

“East Lothian is an area with a proud history of agricultural and farming excellence and I will be ready to listen to local farmers and seek to assist them whenever possible.”
