Douglas Alexander MP for Lothian East constituency
Douglas Alexander MP has visited Musselburgh Racecourse for an update on its latest developments and to hear more about some of the current challenges facing the horse racing industry.
Mr Alexander met with Musselburgh Racecourse Director Bill Farnsworth and discussed how the team there are continuing to work hard on enhancing the experience of racegoers and maintaining Musselburgh’s excellent reputation within the industry.
They also discussed some of the current challenges facing the wider horse-racing industry, including potential changes to the betting levy and taxation of the industry.
Speaking after the visit Douglas Alexander MP said:
“East Lothian is very fortunate to have such a first-rate visitor attraction in the award-winning Musselburgh Racecourse. I welcomed the opportunity to visit today and catch up with Bill.
“It’s an outstanding local facility that makes a significant contribution to the local economy, bringing thousands of visitors to the county each year. It also works hard to support the local community in and around Musselburgh in a variety of ways.”
