Commenting on East Lothian Council’s decision to support proposals for a feasibility survey to explore the suitability of the Torness site for new nuclear infrastructure projects following the current station’s proposed closure om 2030, Douglas Alexander MP said:
“I agree with East Lothian Council that Torness has played a critical role generating clean electricity and providing local people with skilled jobs and apprenticeships for decades.
“I also share the view that all options for continuing to utilise the site for generating nuclear energy should be explored. Therefore, I welcome the proposal to undertake survey work to assess the site’s suitability for a new nuclear power facility.”
