Age UK is offering advice and support to older people as winter approaches.

Age UK has a range of available resources, including advice regarding eligibility for the Winter Fuel Payment, the Warm Home Discount, and the Household Support Fund.

There is also an online benefits calculator that can help older people quickly and easily find out what they could be eligible for. You can also have a benefit check completed over the telephone by calling the Advice Line on 0800 678 1602 (lines open 8am-7pm, 365 days a year).

Tips for reducing energy usage

Alongside a series of helpful factsheets and guides, Age UK also provides an energy saving tips page. You can find a useful list of practical ways you can reduce their energy usage safely, including:

  • Switching off appliances when they’re not in use
  • Running the washing machine at lower temperatures
  • Making sure doors and windows are draught proofed

“As it gets colder, I know that some of my older constituents may be worried about paying their energy bills and staying warm. I am therefore glad to see that Age UK is offering this support, and would urge any constituent in need of help to reach out.”
