Douglas Alexander MP for Lothian East constituency
On Friday 7 November, Douglas Alexander MP visited the John Bellany Day Centre in Port Seton to meet with staff, committee members and service users.
While enjoying their freshly prepared lunch of fish, chips, and peas, Mr Alexander met with day centre attendees chatting about the activities they like to enjoy, and thanking staff for providing such an excellent service and facility.
Speaking after his visit, Douglas Alexander MP said:
“I was delighted to accept the John Bellany Day Centre’s invitation to come and visit them to find out more about the vital lifeline service it offers to members of the local community.
“I enjoyed the opportunity to meet some of the team and chat to service users about the centre and the difference it makes to the lives and wellbeing of local older people.
“It provides important opportunities for companionship, to engage in social activities, receive fresh meals, and engage in the local community, as well as providing breaks for carers.
“It’s a fantastic facility and I’m grateful to David, Keith and their team for all they do for the service users and their carers.”
Keith McCombs, Manager at the Centre, said:
“We were thrilled to welcome Douglas Alexander to the John Bellany Day Centre. His interest in the work we do for older people in the community means a great deal to our staff and service users. Visits like this help shine a light on the importance of local support services.”
The John Bellany Centre, which offers services to people in Cockenzie, Port Seton and Longniddry, opened in 2000, and can accommodate up to 18 people on a daily basis.
