On the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, Douglas Alexander MP has highlighted the extraordinary courage of the Scots and other Allied troops who served on D-Day and in the Normandy campaign and underlined that their sacrifice must never be forgotten.
Douglas Alexander MP said:
“On the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, we honour the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of all those who served in Normandy, including the many Scots who helped change the course of history in the fight for a free future they knew they might never see.
“The sacrifices made by heroes, including those of the 51st Highland Division, are truly humbling. We give our enduring gratitude to that remarkable generation – and to all our veterans – and we remain determined to safeguard the legacy of D-Day, the Battle of Normandy and other conflicts and the freedoms they secured.
“I also want to pay tribute to today’s Scottish service personnel. We are immensely proud of the vital work they do every day to keep us and our allies safe. National security remains a top priority for the UK Government and we will always stand up for our Armed Forces.”
