Migraine Awareness Week is taking place from 21-27 September, and this year Douglas Alexander MP is helping share awareness of the condition by supporting the Migraine Trust’s #BelieveMe campaign.

One in seven people in the UK live with migraine – that means around 10,000 people in the Lothian East constituency – yet people with migraine are often not believed when they speak about its impact on their lives.

That’s why the Migraine Trust’s campaign this year is called #BelieveMe, so that when people speak about the impact of migraine, they are believed.

Commenting, Douglas Alexander MP said:

“I welcome Migraine Awareness Week and the Migraine Trust’s campaign for those living with the condition to be believed when they speak about the severity of its impact.

“There are many misconceptions about migraine. Far from being ‘just a headache’, migraine is a serious neurological condition which can cause debilitating pain, visual disturbances and nausea.

“Migraine can cost people their jobs, their social lives and their independence. It is made even harder by the fact that people are often not believed when they share the impact it has on their lives.

“I am asking constituents to join me in supporting this year’s Migraine Awareness Week and taking a moment to find out more about the #BelieveMe campaign.”
