Douglas Alexander MP for Lothian East constituency
Douglas Alexander MP has visited unique local artisanal spirit and liqueur producer Buck & Birch in Macmerry to learn more about the business’ background and future plans.
Buck & Birch started out in 2012 as a pop-up dining experience, with ingredients foraged and grown in the their own backyard. However, the business quickly shifted to producing premium drinks, flavoured with natural local ingredients and is now selling to some of Scotland’s finest bars, restaurants, hotels and retailers.
It has won various awards for its drinks, most recently just last month at the Scottish Hospitality innovation Awards in Glasgow where it won a Gold Award.
Speaking after the visit, Douglas Alexander MP said:
“I welcomed the opportunity to visit Buck & Birch to learn more about its fascinating background and the team’s plans for growing the business.
“Tom and Rupert’s passion for Scotland’s natural, foraged and grown ingredients shines through and clearly gives their drinks a special and unique quality.
“They have already made significant progress in building their range of products and reputation as a brand, which has helped them win several awards, and I wish the business every success as they continue their journey.”
