Douglas Alexander MP and Martin Whitfield MSP have met with members of the Headway East Lothian charity and paid tribute to its work supporting people with Acquired Brain Injuries.

Headway East Lothian celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, but Mr Alexander and Mr Whitfield were unable to join them for their celebration at the time. They agreed to meet with development officer Joyce Cattanach and members of the group to catch up on its recent progress.

They met in Port Seton Centre, discussed the group’s background, the range of support it offers and some of its latest work and developments. Among the issues highlighted was Headway’s search for new volunteers to support its activities.

It is looking for trustees and volunteers to help run the charity and the organisation of its various events. Anyone who is interested in getting involved should email headwayeastlothian@live.co.uk.

Speaking after the meeting, Douglas Alexander MP said:

“It was a real pleasure to meet Joyce and members of Headway East Lothian to hear more about their work and the vital support they provide. It was very clear from our discussion that it has had an enormous impact over the last 20 years and continues to go from strength to strength.

“The range of activities and support it offers locally is particularly impressive and presents plenty of opportunities for new volunteers to get involved and help make a difference. I urge anyone who is looking for an opportunity to help a great local cause to contact them now.”

Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“Headway East Lothian is one of the most loved and respected of our many brilliant local charities. Under Joyce’s dedicated lead, the group has developed a range of important support and activities to assist brain injury survivors, as well as their families and carers.

“I enjoyed the chance to catch up with Joyce and members of the group and hear more about what they’ve been doing. It’s clear that they’re making a significant difference to those who have been affected by brain injuries and I welcome all that they do locally to help people.”
