Commenting on the UK Government’s announcement of the biggest nuclear building programme in a generation, Douglas Alexander MP said:

“This Labour government is acting with urgency to secure our energy needs now and to build a long-term clean power system that can sustain households and businesses for decades to come. The investment in new nuclear projects, including Small Modular Reactors, offers huge opportunities for growth and jobs across the UK.

“East Lothian is in a prime position to benefit from this investment, thanks to the decades-long knowledge and expertise in the nuclear sector built up at Torness. But we need a Scottish Labour government to end the SNP’s ideological opposition to nuclear and unlock this significant potential.”
