Commenting on the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s Spending Review, Douglas Alexander MP said:

“I’m proud to be part of a Labour government that is kickstarting a new era of growth and renewal that will make East Lothian and the rest of the country better off.

“The Chancellor’s spending review shows once and for all that we have ended Tory austerity, with the plans set out today bringing billions of pounds of investment to Scotland, on top of the record devolution settlement delivered last year.

“However, the massive increase in funds available for Scottish public services must not be squandered by the SNP government. Their record of economic and financial mismanagement risk holding Scotland back – it’s time for a new direction and Scottish Labour is ready to deliver it.”

In her announcement today, the Chancellor has unleashed a new era of growth for Scotland, confirming billions of pounds of investment in clean energy – including new development funding for Acorn – setting out the path to secure the next generation of jobs in the North Sea.

On investment in NHS, education and other services, over the next three years, Labour will provide an extra £9.1 billion for Scotland’s public services. Overall, the settlement for the Scottish Government is the largest settlement in real terms since devolution began.

The Spending Review has also committed £234 million to communities across Scotland, £750 million to support a new national supercomputer, based at the University of Edinburgh, and confirmed the full £8.3 billion funding for GB Energy, to invest in homegrown clean power, and headquartered in Aberdeen.
