Ahead of this year’s Scotland Loves Local week (23-30 August), Douglas Alexander MP attended North Berwick Harbour Market to meet local businesses and give his backing to the campaign.

Launched in May this year by East Lothian Food and Drink and The North Berwick Harbour Trust, the market brings together a wide range of local food and drink producers and other businesses.

The focus for the August market was on the Scotland Loves Local campaign in partnership with East Lothian Food and Drink and Mr Alexander attended to support the market and the campaign.

Now in its fifth year, the Scotland Loves Local campaign promotes localism and encourages collaboration between businesses, communities and local authorities to help create better places in which to live, work and visit.

Douglas Alexander MP said:

“It was a pleasure to support our local East Lothian food and drink producers and other businesses, as well as this year’s Scotland Loves Local campaign week at a very windy North Berwick Harbour Market. I’m grateful to East Lothian Food and Drink and North Berwick Harbour Trust for welcoming me to the market and to all the local businesses involved in making it such a big success.”

Marie-Clare James, Manager at Belhaven Smokehouse and Chair of East Lothian Food and Drink, said:

“We’re incredibly grateful to Douglas Alexander MSP for joining us at the North Berwick Farmers Market and showing his support for the Scotland Loves Local campaign. His presence reinforces the vital role our local producers and makers play in East Lothian’s economy and community spirit. At East Lothian Food and Drink, we’re proud to champion the passion, quality, and sustainability that define our region—and it means so much to have that celebrated at every level.”

Emma Bouglet, Business Manager at East Lothian Food and Drink, said:

“It was wonderful to welcome Douglas Alexander MP to our fourth North Berwick Harbour Market. His visit alongside the Scotland Loves Local campaign, highlights the importance of supporting our local producers and makers.”
