Douglas Alexander MP has visited the Pennypit Community Development Trust to discuss its latest work supporting people in Prestonpans and surrounding towns and villages.

Mr Alexander met with the Pennypit’s Manager, Angie Davie, and discussed some of its key areas of work, such as the range of important support it offers for young people and families, as well as challenges facing charities across the board, including funding.

Angie also highlighted that the Pennypit team is already seeking donations for this year’s festive provision appeal, providing vital support to local families throughout the festive period and helping to ensure that no child or family feels forgotten at Christmas, which Douglas agreed to help promote.

Any businesses or individuals who want to support the appeal can find out more at www.pennypittrust.com/festive-provision.

Speaking afterwards, Douglas Alexander MP said:

“The Pennypit Trust is a really important and highly respected local charity that does amazing work in and around Prestonpans, especially the support it provides for young people and families.

“So it was great to catch up with Angie to discuss some of its latest work and thank her and the team for their commitment to the local community.

“I was delighted to agree to help promote its forthcoming Christmas Appeal, which makes such a vital difference to local families in need.

“I was also pleased to take a moment to sit on the bench dedicated to a genuine local hero and outstanding Labour Councillor, Willie Innes, which was commissioned by the Pennypit.

“Willie was a true champion for Prestonpans and its people, as well as one of the founders of the Pennypit, and the memorial bench helps the community remember him and his significant legacy to the area.”
